We run lots of free community events throughout the year (see the list below for this year). These include yoga, gardening, and environmental workshops, meditation, and menopause groups, as well as events for families and children, for example nature art, bug hotel building, teddy bears’ picnics, and hope to add more events to our calendar each year.
If you have an idea for an event, please get in touch. All activities are weather dependent and mainly run during the summer months.

| Community Singing | Sun August 9th 2pm-3:30pm | The first of our monthly community singing groups led by the amazing Sian Cross. Singing in with others relieves stress and offers a sense of belonging. A space to remember what it is to live in community. Simply come, sing and connect with the beautiful garden and the community around you. No singing experience required, no lyrics sheets or reading involved. | Stressbusting Led meditation and Yoga for Relaxation | Aug 22nd 1pm-2:30pm | Let the stress and strain of the week disappear and relax in the dappled sunshine under the apple trees in the secret garden. Enjoy an hour out of your busy life to recharge through led meditation, movement and laughter yoga. Please bring a mat, blanket or towel and some drinking water (in a reusable bottle if you can). 1hr |
| Junior Jungle Bug Hunt and Teddy Bears Picnic | Sat Aug 8th 1pm-2pm | One for all ages to enjoy. A bug hunt in the Globe Garden and then settle down on your blankets with your picnic to listen to children’s stories under the ancient apple trees. Bring a picnic and blanket. 1hr+ |

| Community Corner Open Garden | 27th June 4-5pm | Open Garden – come and view the Community Garden, learn about no dig potatoes, composting, water capture, self-watering wicking beds and our giant bug hotel. Build a Bee B&B to take home. Help us decorate the raised beds with wild art. Great for all ages. |

All of the events are free, but we would be grateful of any donations to help us fund the ongoing work of the SGP. Donations can be made via Paypal. Please select the Secret Garden Project option in PayPal in the box titled – ‘for Use this donation for’.
Meet by the lock gates on Lock Island (near the Lock, Stock and Barrel pub) for all SGP events. Please cross the lock gates with care. At the moment we can only access the Globe Garden across the lock walkway. We are looking at alternative approaches for disabled access for the future. Apologies for any inconvenience this limited access causes. All events are attended at your own risk.
Want to get involved?
We run regular volunteer sessions at our two main locations. Both groups are very friendly, and you don’t need any specific skills, just an enthusiasm to be outside, get involved and do something positive for your community. All tools provided. Please wear suitable clothing and gloves, and ideally a bottle (refillable) of water as it can be thirsty work.
Globe Garden - Newbury Lock - Volunteer sessions run every other Saturday 10am to 1pm. Coffee and cake at 11.30. See dates below Location
Community Corner - Parsons Close - a space for local people to relax, play, catch up, grow fruit, vegetables and flowers, enjoy the planting and watch the bees. Located between Parsons Close and Western End, West Fields, Newbury. Volunteer sessions every 2 weeks 2.30pm – 4pm from April to November, with additional sessions every Thursday 7-7:30pm from May to September. See dates below. Location

We meet every two weeks throughout the year (see dates below)
Lock Island and the Globe Garden - Saturdays 10am to 1pm. Coffee and cake at 11.30am.
Community Corner - Saturdays 2:30pm to 4pm
We also have a weekly Thursday session 7-7:30pm at Community Corner during the summer for watering and vegetable care/cropping.
